(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctoral fellow in soil geochemistry

The aim of this project is to examine the mechanisms by which ectomycorrhizal (ECM) fungi mobilize and acquire nutrients associated with iron oxide mineral particles. In boreal forest soils, a major fraction of plant growth-limiting nutrients including nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) is associated with iron oxide minerals. To access such nutrients, trees are dependent on the activity of ECM fungal root symbionts. You will study the molecular mechanisms of nutrient acquisition at the fungus-iron oxide interface and how the reactions are regulated in heterogeneous redox environments. The experiments will be conducted in laboratory model systems. A focus will be studies of surface reactions between iron oxide minerals and metabolites released by the fungus, as well as the consequences of these reactions for nutrient mobilization. You will use a combination of in-situ infrared (IR) spectroscopy and wet chemical methods. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with a postdoctoral fellow in soil microbiology.

(14) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in Physics with focus on aerosol formation in the Arctic

In the Arctic aerosols play a fundamental, but poorly understood, role for the properties of mixed-phase clouds. These clouds are extremely important for the Arctic energy balance. Thus, only small aerosol-cloud perturbations can have large impact on the Arctic climate. In turn, both the natural Arctic aerosol production over the open ocean and the long-distance transport of aerosols from the surrounding continental regions can increase as a consequence of the Arctic climate change.

(22) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in Mesoscopic Light-Matter Entanglement in Hybrid Solid-State Networks

Microwave cavities coupled to quantum dots are highly controllable quantum systems that combine bosonic and fermionic degrees of freedom and which may form the basis of a wide range of quantum technological applications. Of particular interest are the non-classical states of light that can be generated through interactions with the electronic transport in quantum dots that are driven out of equilibrium by applied voltages. In this theoretical project, you will investigate hybrid networks of coupled microcavities and quantum dots, which may serve as quantum simulators of complex systems such as molecules. However, unlike real molecules, there is direct access to the individual nodes and connectors for exciting the quantum network by running currents through the quantum dots or by driving the cavities with external light fields. You will investigate the state of the quantum network by evaluating the current and the noise in the quantum dots and the statistics of photons that are emitted from the cavities. You will thus develop a detailed understanding of how many-body entanglement and non-classical correlations propagate throughout complex quantum networks and thereby pave the way for future solid-state experiments on such systems.

About Lund University, Scania, Sweden – Official Website

Lund University  is a prestigious university in Sweden and one of northern Europe’s oldest universities. The university is located in the city of Lund in the province of Scania, Sweden. It traces its roots back to 1425, when a Franciscan studium generale was founded in Lund. After Sweden won Scania from Denmark in the 1658 Treaty of Roskilde, the university was officially founded in 1666 on the location of the old studium generale next to Lund Cathedral.

Lund University has nine faculties, with additional campuses in the cities of Malmö and Helsingborg, with 40,000 students in 270 different programmes and 1,300 freestanding courses. The university has some 600 partner universities in nearly 70 countries and it belongs to the League of European Research Universities as well as the global Universitas 21 network. Lund University is consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.

Two major facilities for materials research are in Lund University: MAX IV, a synchrotron radiation laboratory – inaugurated in June 2016, and European Spallation Source (ESS), a new European facility that will provide up to 100 times brighter neutron beams than existing facilities today, to be opened in 2023.

The university centers on the Lundagård park adjacent to the Lund Cathedral, with various departments spread in different locations in town, but mostly concentrated in a belt stretching north from the park connecting to the university hospital area and continuing out to the northeastern periphery of the town, where one finds the large campus of the Faculty of Engineering.
