(02) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: PhD position in the field of carbon-based quantum materials
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong experimental background in materials chemistry, solid-state physics or nanoscience who wants to pursue cutting-edge research at a world-class level. Within a large-scale project, we aim to develop carbon-based quantum materials for next-generation quantum technologies, focusing strongly on atomically precise graphene nanoribbons (GNRs). Within this project, you will work on the on-surface synthesis and characterization of GNRs with exotic properties (spin chains, topological quantum phases) that make them highly relevant for integration into quantum devices. To preserve GNR properties upon substrate transfer and device integration, you will investigate specific GNR edge modifications such as hydrogen passivation as chemical and electronic protection steps. Within this context, you will also develop Raman spectroscopy methodologies to characterize the edge modifications and benchmark the passivation strategies' quality, robustness and reversibility.

(04) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: PhD Student advancing in vitro to in vivo assessments
In the context of the European project MACRAME, this PhD project aims to further develop the use of in vitro data in environmental and human risk assessment and life cycle assessment. In alignment with the EU strategies to secure the safety and sustainability of enabling and emerging technologies, the MACRAME Project focuses on the development of methodologies that apply to “Advanced Materials” and that are aligned with future-oriented innovation, safety and sustainability considerations. This will be achieved in close collaboration with the project partners.
Deadline: Open until filled
(05) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: Biomedical PhD Student (100%)
The main objective of the project is to establish a vascularized glioblastoma-on-a-chip model to assist in the prediction of the patient response to treatment, screen for anti-cancer therapeutics, and to evaluate novel drug-delivery systems. In this way, we generate a relevant alternative to complement animal models used for drug development.
Deadline: Open until filled
(06) PhD Degree – Fully Funded
PhD position summary/title: PhD Student position in the field of thin-film solar cells
We are looking for a student motivated to contribute to developing thin-film CIGS photovoltaic devices. The researcher in this position is responsible for fabricating and characterising solar cells and layers based on the CIGS material system. The researcher goals are to understand and overcome the limitations of devices based on new alloyed CIGS absorbers with high bandgap, explore the absorber processing limits and develop electrical contacts because of new applications such as bifacial and semi-transparent solar cells for tandem applications.
