(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Fellow- Pulmonary

Work in this laboratory centers on the metabolic programs that contribute to neutrophil biology in health and disease. Neutrophils rely primarily on glycolysis for energy production but it is increasingly recognized that mitochondrial metabolic programs contribute to many neutrophil effector functions. We are currently focused on mitochondrial beta-oxidation of long chain fatty acids, as this metabolic program is essential for optimal neutrophil chemotaxis and trafficking to the site of infection in a mouse model of bacterial pneumonia. While current work centers on ex vivo analyses of human neutrophils, mouse neutrophils, and mouse models of bacterial pneumonia and lung injury, we plan to begin studies of mitochondrial metabolism in neutrophils isolated from persons with pneumonia, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
